MIRI: Various concerned quarters, including the authorities, continue to carry out activities to deter the people from smoking - a habit that not only endangers the smokers’ lives but also that of their family members and others.

The Health Department, for instance, is mounting relentless operations and activities to drive home the message that there is no benefit at all in puffing.

And as part of the efforts, the department’s Investigation and Prosecution Unit here seriously enforces the Control of the Tobacco Products Regulations 2004 under which smoking in gazetted no-smoking areas is an offence.

From January until now, a total of 31 people, including 15 students had been booked for puffing in gazetted no-smoking areas in the city. . . .

He said the students were aged between 13 and 16.
